Adventure Runs Deep – The IKON Pass

Lifestyle

Description

What a trip! I’m already dreaming of the next time we go. First of all, let me remind you that last week we were in a POLAR VORTEX so to say we spent the week outside and yet loved every minute, is saying a lot.

We went on a Media Tour to see what the IKON Pass is all about and for those of you that haven’t heard of it yet, it’s one pass that gets you access to 38 ski and snowboard destinations around the world. YESSSS.

Last week we went to Blue Mountain (a 90 min drive from Toronto) and to Tremblant (in Quebec). The other 36 iconic spots around the globe are across the US and Western Canada, as well as Japan, Australia and Chile. Sign. Me. Up. (More details on the IKON Pass can be found here).

Ah, where to even start? We spent our first morning at Blue Mountain on the slopes and then rode the Southern Comfort Chairlift to the top where the Woodview Mountain Top Skating Trail is located. You can also drive to the trail but there how fun to just trade your skis for skates at the top. And guys, the skating trail is absolutely magical. It’s 1.1km through the woods at the top of a mountain and as pretty as it sounds. There’s a big outdoor fireplace and delicious Beaver Tails. I was a happy camper.

We dined at Pottery Restaurant, went for a hot tub and then had drinks by the fire in our room at the Grand Georgian. Then we tucked in for the night and started getting super excited for our trip to Tremblant in the morning.

It’s been so long since I’d been to Tremblant and I had honestly forgotten just how BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL it is up there in the Laurentian Mountains. It’s also really accessible from Toronto with direct flights right to the resort (both Porter and Air Canada offer them.)

We stayed at the Holiday Inn which was great for catching rides up the gondola and meandering through the twinkly village for aprés fun afterwards. Oh, and a huge bonus to staying in one of the hotels in the village is you get early access to the mountain so you can head up for first tracks before everyone else.

You have to experience first tracks at least one of the mornings because it’s incredible. It was so eerily quiet and beautiful and the snow conditions were perfection. A friend’s go pro caught me having a moment on the first run when I rode by whooping and yelling about the powder LOL. There are few things that make me happier than fresh snow and the sun rising up over the mountains as you ride down.

It really was FREEZING during the polar vortex so we had no guilt about averaging just two runs between each hot chocolate/hot toddy/french onion soup/crêpe break at the Summit.

The chalet at the top of the mountain has recently been renovated and expanded and has the most ridiculous views to stare out at while you warm up by the fire, and eat and drink, to your heart’s content. (Check out the view behind my delicious french onion soup in the pic below).

As for aprés fun, there are so many options down in the village but definitely check out P’Tit Caribou. Huge jenga pieces, beer pong, and a random hammer and nail game made it pretty hilarious.

Oh, and you have to try La Maison de la Crêpe in Tremblant’s village. Go hungry – very, very hungry.

I should probably sign off now because I could go on for awhile about this trip, but I also wanted to say how great it was to get away just with Max. It was our first time leaving all three of our babes overnight so I was nervous leading up to it, but of course they had the best time with their grandparents and we had the best time on the slopes together.

In the last ten years I’ve spent so much time pregnant, or carrying small infants, or teaching my young kids on the bunny hills and while I loved that time, I’m also so excited for this next stage when I can spend way more time back on my board.

Of course when we got home and showed the kiddos all of our photos and videos they were ALL OVER the thought of going together next time and checking out some more mountains. Something tells me we’ll all have the IKON Pass next year and we’ll be hitting up all kinds of different destinations.

This trip and blog post were in #partnership with IKON Pass but believe me when I say all views are entirely my own. XO
