The Fishtail Braid

Beauty

Description

Even though it doesn’t look it, the Fishtail is actually the easiest braid out there and it looks awesome. It also wears well throughout the day getting even prettier as little wisps start to fall out.

The simplest way is to start with all the hair pulled back into a ponytail and then divide that pony into two equal parts which we can call A and B. Next you take a little strand of hair from A and add it to B. You want to take the strand from around the back of A so that it wraps around the front before joining B. Then take a little strand from around the back of B and add it to A. Now just keep alternating adding little pieces from A to B all the way to the bottom.

Once you’re at the bottom, you can carefully snip the elastic and the braid will fall into place. Mess it up a bit right away if you like that look or let nature take its course throughout the day.

These pictures show a fishtail I’ve done using larger strands of hair but you can also use much thinner pieces all the way down and it looks great too – it will just take a little longer to reach the bottom. Pulling the hair into a pony first isn’t necessary but makes it easier if you are just learning the Fishtail and I love how loose and effortless the top looks when you cut the elastic away.

Happy fishing!
